About Gordon Muller

In an advertising career spanning four decades, Gordon Muller has held positions at a number of major international advertising agencies McCann-Erickson; Bates-Wells; Ogilvy & Mather and Saatchi & Saatchi. He has worked on a wide cross-section of multinational advertising business and has extensive experience of working on political campaigns in South and East Africa. As Media Director of Saatchi & Saatchi from 1989 to 1996, Gordon was a key figure in the development of the Africa Network systems, operational procedures and training.


In 1996, Gordon resigned as a shareholder and Media Director of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, founding GSM Quadrant, a media planning and media consultancy. GSM Quadrant offers a variety of communication services, ranging from strategic planning and media auditing, to workshop facilitation and training programme development. His clients include Caxton/NAB; SABC; BDFM; (AMASA) Advertising Media Association of SA; Music For Pleasure; Media 24 Naspers; National Electronic Media Institute of SA (NEMISA); Primedia; Specialist Press Association; Print Media Association; Underline Marketing and Communications.

Gordon is Managing Director of OMD Media Direction, currently ranked as South Africa’s largest Media Agency.

A school guidance counsellor by profession, Gordon is a former Chairperson of the Media Association of South Africa (MASA) and sits on the National Education Board of the Institute of Marketing Management (IMM). His book Media Planning - Art or Science is the prescribed text for both IMM and the AMASA/AAA School of Advertising Media Diploma. In conjunction with AMASA, his book was awarded the Media Director Circle's "Media Innovator of Year" award for 1996.
